“South Wales Police Leadership Award-Winner…”
Tim retired in September 2015, after 30 years’ service within South Wales Police. In the year of his retirement he was awarded the South Wales police annual Leadership Award and the 2015 Lifetime Achievement Award.
He served his last six years as a Detective Chief Superintendent and Head of the Force’s Professional Standards Department, with overall responsibility for Force Standards and Values and the investigation of Misconduct and Corruption within the service.
Prior to this, he served as the Divisional Commander for the County Of Bridgend, notably during the period of the tragic cluster of teenage suicides in the area that received international attention.
His contribution to managing this crisis was recognised when he was invited to a meeting with the Prime Minister at Downing Street.
During his career he spent more than 25 years as an operational and senior detective gaining expertise within the fields of criminal intelligence, drug enforcement and serious crime including homicide investigation.
Whilst serving he was actively engaged in the development of international policing. He contributed towards the training of senior police officers from across the world, most recently as a guest speaker at the Police College in Shanghai, China.
Since retirement, his services have been retained by the National College of Policing where he continues to teach international students. He is an associate lecturer at the University Of South Wales, delivering a series of presentations within the Policing and Public Services syllabus. He is also studying for an MSC qualification in International Policing.
During 2017, Tim has undertaken Specialist Project Work in West Africa, in support of the Strengthening Action Against Corruption (STAAC) Programme – Ghana, which required him to develop investigation manuals and deliver training to law enforcement agencies tackling financial crime, corruption and money laundering.
